My Top Foundational Functional Labs I Use in My Practice

While I have access to a wide range of advanced functional tests, these foundational labs are the ones I rely on most. I have seen them consistently move the needle by uncovering the most common hidden imbalances and internal stressors that drive symptoms in both myself and my clients.

GI-MAP (Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus)

The GI-MAP is an advanced stool test that uses DNA-based qPCR technology to reveal the composition and balance of microbes in the gut, including beneficial bacteria, harmful pathogens, yeast, parasites, and markers of inflammation and digestion. It shines a light on hidden gut imbalances that often underlie digestive symptoms like bloating, irregular bowel movements, and nutrient malabsorption. Because the gut interacts with virtually every major system, GI-MAP findings can point to patterns that influence immune function, hormone metabolism (including estrogen clearance), detoxification pathways, and even skin and mood symptoms, helping you uncover root drivers and design targeted, personalized protocols.

DUTCH Test

The DUTCH Test is a cutting-edge hormone panel that uses dried urine to map not just your hormone levels, but how your body metabolizes them over time. It offers a detailed look at sex hormones like estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, adrenal hormones such as cortisol and DHEA, and key metabolites that reveal how well your body processes and clears these hormones.

This test can uncover imbalances that contribute to common symptoms such as fatigue, mood swings, sleep disruption, PMS, PCOS patterns, and stress-related dysregulation. It also sheds light on hormone detoxification pathways and markers related to nutrient status, oxidative stress, and melatonin production, providing insights that guide more precise protocol design for hormonal balance, stress resilience, detox support and overall systemic regulation.

* Note: The DUTCH Test is currently not available in Europe. For my European clients, I use an alternative option called the Stress and Hormone Panel, which still provides valuable insights into adrenal function, stress response, and key hormonal patterns to guide personalized protocols.

HTMA - Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis

HTMA measures the levels of essential minerals and toxic metals deposited in the hair over the past few months, giving a long-term picture of your metabolic activity, nutrient balance, stress response, and toxic burden. It goes beyond a basic mineral panel to reveal imbalances in key mineral ratios that influence energy production, adrenal and thyroid trends, detox capacity, and overall cellular function. Because mineral status and heavy metals can affect stress resilience, hormone activity, immune function, and detoxification pathways, HTMA helps guide personalized nutrition, lifestyle, and detox support strategies that other tests alone might miss.

Functional Bloodwork Analysis

The Difference Between "Normal" and Optimal: Most people are told their bloodwork is “fine” because their results fall within standard lab ranges. However, those ranges are designed to detect disease, not function; they’re based on a bell curve of the average (and often unhealthy) population.

At Wholistic Blueprint, I look at your bloodwork through a functional lens. Instead of just looking for "normal" labs, I hunt for the tiny red flags—like wonky thyroid markers or sneaky insulin spikes—that explain why you’re still dealing with breakouts and weight that won't budge. My goal is to catch these shifts before they become a problem and address them with a personalized protocol that helps you get back to feeling your best.

Dealing with something extra complex? I have access to a full suite of specialty labs (like Total Tox and Food Sensitivities) that we can chat about toward the end of your program if we feel they're the missing piece of your puzzle.
